GuruGuide: How to downgrade your iPhone 3Gs from OS 3.1 to OS 3.0 (to Jailbreak it!)

justsayno3.1

Now that we have a great Jailbreaking option for iPhone 3.0, many of us are regretting our early adoption of the Beta 3.1 software. Thankfully there is a fairly simple method available to downgrade from OS 3.1 to 3.0.

Please Note: This will NOT allow you to downgrade and Unlock, this will only allow a Jailbreak of your newly downgraded phone. This is due to the baseband of the phone being upgraded with the 3.1 update.

Please make sure of the following before you begin this guide:

1. You must have iTunes 8.2 Installed

2. The original iPhone 3GS 3.0 software

Ok, let’s get started:

1. Connect your iPhone to your computer and open iTunes.

2. Switch off the iPhone

3. Place your phone into DFU mode to allow the software update. Do this by holding the Power button and Home button for 10 seconds, then releasing the power button and continuing to hold the home button for 15 more seconds.

3. Click ok, then hold down the ALT key and click Restore in iTunes. Choose the previously downloaded 3.0 software.

4. Click restore. At some point you will get an iTunes error, this is NORMAL!

5. At this point, the software has in fact been properly installed on your phone, it just needs a jump-start to activate the phone. To do this, we will simple complete the jailbreak!

6. Continue on to follow the Jailbreak guide here!
