There has been plenty of buzz lately about the expected Apple tablet. Every technology blogging site (this blog included) has had a post about it. Here is what we expect: The new Apple Tablet will most likely have a 10 inch screen. It will probably run one of Intel’s Atom processor (the same one used in many netbooks) and will not have a keyboard. Imagine a very large iPod touch with a few more ‘home’ buttons.

If (and I really stress IF) this is the case, I cannot think of a more useless device.

One of the biggest gripes about the iPhone is about the keyboard. Every text message I send requires numerous backspaces before it is ready to go. Maybe it is my fingers. Maybe not. Either way, I cannot imagine a bigger version of this keyboard working any better. One of the advantages of a tablet it the stylus, actually being able to ‘handwrite’ on the surface. The information we have suggest this is not in Apple’s plans.

What would be the purpose of such a device? One would suppose it would be another ‘media’ device, used to consume movies, music and the Internet. So we’re going to get an underpowered laptop to watch movies on. Good luck watching a full HD movie on one battery charge. With Apple’s recent aversion to user-removable batteries all I see is a worthless iPod Giganto!

Let me sum this up by saying I have owned a small tablet. I own an HP netbook. I love most of Apple’s products. With this in mind, I cannot imagine the device we have been told is coming is going to be of any value. Maybe the Cult of Apple’s fearless leader will prove me wrong. Maybe not. Probably not. Sorry Mr. Jobs.

If those specs turn out to be correct then I agree, especially with a rumored $800ish price tag.

I wonder if it will allow flash?

I can’t imagine it not supporting flash, as it would most likely use a processor at least as powerful as most netbooks, which do support flash.
