Enable Data Tethering Easily on iPhone OS 3.1.2

Tethering Screen

Now that the newest iPhone OS, Version 3.1.2, has been Jailbroken by the Blackra1n RC3 Jailbreak, tethering your iPhone to your computer is now possible. I had previously written about a method here that enabled you to do it, but it was fairly complex. Here’s how to get tethering enabled the easy way!

First, you must have a Jailbroken iPhone running OS 3.1.2 to follow this guide. Our latest Jailbreak tutorials for iPhone OS 3.1.2 can be found here.

Once you have updated your iPhone to OS 3.1.2 using iTunes and Jailbroken it:

1. On your iPhone running OS 3.1.2 Jailbroken, visit help.benm.at.

2. Scroll down the page to the Mobileconfigs entry.

3. Click on download, then your country.

4. Click on your provider.

5. Install the profile.

6. Bam! Tethering enabled! Visit Settings>General>Network>Internet Tethering to view instructions on enabling the tether to your laptop.

7. At this point your Visual Voicemail may stop working if you are on AT&T. If this is the case, then choose Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings to re-enable it.

That’s it, you can now tether your iPhone to your computer using the USB cable that comes with your iPhone. The modem drivers are included with iTunes, so you must have iTunes installed of course.
