Guru Guide: Tether iPhone 3.1.2

Now that the iPhone Dev Team has included the IPCC tethering hack in the new Redsn0w 0.9.3 release, we’ve got the ability to tether our 3.1.2 iPhones again! But using Redsn0w is just the first step, here’s how to set up your iPhone for tethering on firmware 3.1.2 after you Jailbreak!

NOTE: You must be Jailbroken to use this tutorial, to learn more about Jailbreaking, visit our page here. To Jailbreak your iPhone use our tutorial here.

Disclaimer: I am not condoning the usage of tethering on your standard iPhone Data plan from AT&T, they can and may exact extra charges from you if they feel that your data charges are excessive! I also take no responsibility for any damage to your iPhone as a result of this tutorial, or your failure to read! There, that being said….

  1. From your iPhone, navigate to http://m.peacefulinsanity.com/Tether.mobileconfig and hit the install button and confirm. This will install the custom IPCC file.
  2. Reboot your iPhone.
  3. Go to Settings > General > Network > Internet Tethering and turn it on.
  4. Bam! Tethering enabled! Visit Settings>General>Network>Internet Tethering to view instructions on enabling the tether to your laptop.

At this point your Visual Voicemail may stop working if you are on AT&T. If this is the case, then choose Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings to re-enable it.

Enjoy Tethering your iPhone!
